Workshop aims :​

•  Deliver lectures covering the fundamentals of recombinant DNA technology and protein expression, including cloning strategies, vectors and plasmids, and different protein expression systems.

• Provide hands-on training in the preparation of competent cells, bacterial transformation, transfection, culture set-up for protein expression in Escherichia coli, and induction of protein expression using IPTG.

• Introduce participants to the principles and practical applications of chromatography techniques, with a focus on affinity chromatography, immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC), and size exclusion chromatography.

• Offer practical training in cell harvesting, protein extraction using sonication, and downstream protein purification workflows.

• Train participants in the use of SDS-PAGE and SEC as quality control methods to assess protein expression and purification.

• Undertake a preliminary protein interaction study using purified Nanobody–GFP proteins.
